  • Kauffman_weighin2.jpgTravis Kauffman 12-0 (9kos) & 23 yrs. of age has one of the brightest futures in boxing of all the Heavyweights out their right now. Travis was 56-12 as an amateur and won 2 International bouts and 1 National Title as well.

Travis is probably going to be fighting in Reading for his last time for a while. Travis is looking to sign a contract with a manager that will be moving him from Reading and on to the Big Stage of HBO Boxing.

As Travis continues to move up the ranks in the heavyweight division you will see the ability of this young man as he is not only faster then most heavyweights but he is without a doubt the toughest mentally of all the heavyweights.

As Kermit Cintron & Julian Letterlough both fought on HBO soon you will too see Travis fighting on HBO as well.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to see Reading's born and raised son do battle with Joshua Gutcher Sept. 13th. at the Riveredge on Rt. 183 Bernville Pa 19601

  • Antillon takes on Attah

These two guys that are fighting for a title on Friday night both fought here in Reading before.

Attah fought an exhibition bout at the Riveredge many years ago and Antillon fought at the Sovereign Performing Arts in June 2008.

Reading is a true fight town!

There were no harsh words, no macho stare-downs and, pretty much, nada for drama, at today’s final press conference for “Southpaw Brawl,” the card promoted by Top Rank and Prime Time, slated for Friday at Isleta Casino & Resort.

From main eventer Urbano Antillon (23-0, 16 KOs) to his foe, Daniel Attah (24-4-1, 8 KOs), to Demetrius Hopkins (28-0-1, 11 KOs) and the pair of local lefties who are paired off, the promises at the podium were about as thrilling to hear as watching paint dry.

    “Just want to thank God . . . .”

    “I’m ready.”

    “I’ve prepared well.”

“It’s gonna be a good fight.”

The same-ol’-same-ol’ mini-speeches at the stand, however, are not expected to mirror the action lined up for Friday night.

Top lightweight and jr. lightweight contender Antillon, of Mayfield, Calif., headlines the card in a 12-round bout for a pair of belts (NABF & NABO) at super featherweight. He’ll be taking on “The Prophet,” Nigerian Daniel Attah who will be ending a 19-month disappearance from the ring.

  • Mayweather to train Hatton

The word in boxing is that the new trainer for Ricky Hatton will be Floyd Mayweather Sr. We have learned that there have been conversations between the two parties and there is interest on both sides. Hatton recently parted ways with long time trainer Bill Graham.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. is also the head trainer for Oscar Dela Hoya.

    NIGHT OF THE RISING STARS

    SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 13, 2008
    Riveredge Hotel & Restaurant Complex
    Route 183 North   Reading, PA

READING, PA – AUGUST 12, 2008 –  Professional ballroom-style boxing returns to The Riveredge Hotel & Restaurant complex in Reading, Pennsylvania on Saturday September 13th with an exciting lineup of rising young boxing prospects.  The main event will feature undefeated Reading heavyweight Travis "GW Hope" Kauffman (12-0, 9 KOs) against Josh "Griz" Gutcher (18-9) of Iowa in a eight round bout. After a fourteen month layoff, Kauffman returned to the ring in June and has scored two knockouts since then, both within two rounds. He plans to resume his climb up the heavyweight rankings.

The night's eight round co-feature will pit Reading's Keenan Collins (12-4-1) against Joshua Onyango (14-15-1) of New Jersey. Collins hopes to get back on track after a stunning first round KO loss to Doel Carrasquillo last November. Also scheduled for a six round cruiserweight bout will be Julio Cesar Mathews (4-0) versus Chris Stallworth (9-1) of Pittsburgh. Stallworth is the nephew of Steeler's Hall of Famer John Stallworth.
