MPHS girls beat Fairfield Friday night 57-44, Amanda Dunn scored 19. Saturday against 14th ranked Pella, the Panthers jumped out to a quick 11 point lead but could not hang on and lost 42-36. The girls go to Central Lee Thursday night and host Keokuk Friday. MPHS boys won over Fairfield Friday night 56-34, Henry Krieger-Coble led the scoring with 18. Saturday the Panthers traveld to Pella and lost in overtime 78-73 in overtime. Blake heitmeier hit for 20 points, Austin Marshall 16, Henry Krieger-Coble had 14. M.P. hosts Cedar Rapids Prairie Tuesday and travels to Keokuk Friday, hosts Central lee Saturday. MPHS wrestlers finished third at the Wapello wrestling tourney Saturday with 151 points, Ft. Madison won the title with 172. Panthers had one champion, Danny Kelley at 285. Three wrestlers finished second, Aaron Apalara at 112, Daniel Calhoun 140, Ryan herr 215. Panthers go to league favorite Keokuk Thursday. IWC hosted Clarke College of Dubuque in Midwest Collegiate Conference basketball Saturday. Both teams won with the women scoring a 68-49 win, Bittany Okland 14 points and 7 rebounds. The men won 91-61, Brett Humpal 28 points. Columbus Community defeated the MPHS wrestlers 45-27 in dual meet action in Panther Gym last night. M.P. Winners were-Aaron Apalara, Zach May, Kody Apalara, Ryan Herr, Danny Kelley. Both teams will wrestle at the Willard Howell Invitational at Wapello Saturday. MPHS girl(2-1) are on the road tonight to play basketball at Fairfield. MPHS boys (1-0) are going to host the Trojans. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the girls matchup and have score updates on the boys. It's freshman jv and varsity action at both sites beginning at 4:45. The girls will host Pella Saturday afternoon, the boys go to Pella, jv and varsity action at both sites beginning at 1 p.m. IWC women and men host Clarke College Saturday afternoon, women play at 1 p.m. and the men will follow. KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the UNI vs New Hampshire playoff football game beginning at 5:30 Saturday evening. The Mt. IWC women played at William Penn last night and brought home an impressive 80-64 win. Megan couch scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Brittany Okland added 15 points for the Tigers who are now 4-5 (1-0) and host Clarke College Saturday. IWC men played at #17 William Penn last night and knocked off the Statesmen by a score of 97-81, Keenan Standbridge hit 7 three pointers and scored 27 points to lead the visitors to the win. Brett Humpal had 18 points and Da'Kari Shelby had 10 points and 12 rebounds. IWC is 5-5 (1-0) and host Clarke Saturday. MPHS wrestlers open the 2008-2009 season at home tonight against Columbus Community and Davenport North. Coach Jamy Ball enters his 7th season, last year the panthers had a 13 (school record)-7 dual record. Jay Hackett qualified for State last year, he leads the list of 8 returning letter winners. Other area duals-New London-WMU at Burlington, Ft. Madison at Quincy, Keokuk at Davis County, L-M and Highland at Washington, Van Buren at Albia. The Iowa Wesleyan College baseball program will be hosting a pair of skill clinics. A pitching and catching clinic will be held January 31st from 9 a.m. till noon, a hitting clinic will be held February 8th from 1-4 p.m. Both will be held at Ruble Arena. Mt. Pleasant girls protected their home court in basketball last night beating the visiting Ottumwa Bulldogs 48-28. M.P. led 31-15 at halftime. Melanie Phipps scored 10 points to lead a very balanced attack. Joslyn Haffarnan, Taylor Shull, Janel barnes and Amanda Dunn each scored 7 points, Makenzie Sartorious hit for 6. The 2-1 Panthers open conference play at Fairfield Friday night. The MPHS JV won 39-20, Ottumwa did win the freshman game 33-29. Other girls scores-Danville 56 Notre Dame 45, Harmony 52 W. MPHS boys won in come from behind fashion at Cedar Rapids Xavier 66-61, Saints led 33-22 at halftime. In the second half M.P. fought back and led by 3 points at one time in the third quarter before the home team regained a five point lead heading into the final 8 minutes. Mt. Pleasant out scored Xavier 24-14 in the fourth quarter and start out the season with a victory. Jordon Cotton hit for 20 points and Scott Hahn added 19. Wartburg College junior guard Travis Temple of Crawfordsville, former Waco High School standout, came off the bench for a 16-point, seven-of-10 shooting performance in an 86-60 win over Northland College of Michigan Sunday, Nov. 30. Panthers (1-1) will now play host to Ottumwa (0-2) tomorrow night. Prairie won the JV game 44-36. IWC women played in a tournament at the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse Friday and Saturday. Friday the host school beat the Tigers 71-56, Ali Devries hit for 18 points. Heather Larson scored 19 points to lead IWC Saturday in scoring, but Carroll University defeated the Lady Tigers 78-69. MPHS girls (0-1) play basketball at Cedar Rapids Prairie tonight, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will have the varsity action beginning at 6:30 p.m. UNI football team hosts Maine in the first round of the football playoffs Saturday, KILJ-FM 105.5 has the action beginning at 2;35 p.m. Iowa State basketball on KILJ-AM 1130 Saturday. IHSAA Announces Wrestling, Basketball Hall-of-Fame Classes for 2009 Hall of fame classes to be honored at the Iowa High School Athletic Association's State Wrestling and State Basketball Tournaments later this year have been announced. One coach and four former wrestlers will be honored during the 5:45 p.m. Awards segment prior to the championship matches at the State Wrestling Tournament, Saturday, Feb. 21 in Wells Fargo Arena. Those being inducted are Royce Duncan, coach at Pleasant Valley, and former state champions Bruce Kinseth of Decorah; Kevin Dresser of Humboldt, Paul Weltha of Ames, and Lee Fullhart of Decorah. Three coaches and six former players will enter the IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame, Saturday, March 14. Those individuals include retired coaches Carl Cochran of Tri-Center, Neola; Jerry Slykhuis of Cedar Falls, and Postville's Paul Jungblut.
