  • SaintSolitudeWEB.jpg Smooth-voiced Asheville, N.C., indie-pop singer-songwriter Dup Crosson, right, performs under the moniker Saint Solitude.

He will share his songs at 10 p.m. today (Monday, Dec. 15) at Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square.

The musician performs solo, but uses sound loops to accompany himself on guitar. To hear Saint Solitude's music, visit WestrayWEB.jpegThe Knoxville Jazz Orchestra will present its "Swingin' Christmas" concert at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the Tennessee Theatre, 604 S. Gay St.

Trombonist Ron Westray, right, will join the KJO for the yuletide jam. After working for years with Wynton Marsalis, Westray now teaches trombone at the University of Texas at Austin.

Admission is $29.50. For information, call 865-656-4444 or visit NewBrutalInstruments.jpg

Edgy heavy-duty rock trio New Brutalism will perform 'round about 10 o'clock Saturday (Dec. 13) at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave. These fellows perform on guitar, bass & drums all crafted from aluminum. Atlanta band Hawks will also perform. From the MySpace page, it looks like these guys play old-fashioned wood-based instruments and have lots of tattoos. The tunes are also on the heavy punk side of things. I suspect that both bands are familiar with the music of Steve Albini. Not a bad thing, overall.

  • Going to Cincinnati?

From the random e-mails department ... I just got an events announcement from Citybeat.com of Cincinnati. Looks like they have concerts coming up featuring Ra Ra Riot, Matisyahu, Margot & The Nuclear So & So's and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

There's also the curious holiday production of "A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant" by the Know Theatre Company. It purports to be "The actual teachings of Scientology ... explained and dissected against the candy-colored backdrop of a traditional nativity play." Now that sounds hilarious.
