The 2008 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series kicked off this weekend with the first of six stop at the Minnesota Aquatics Center. For the second year in a row, swimmers will be awarded points for medals earned at the six meets. The FINA Swimming World Cup 2008 drew to a close this past weekend in Berlin, with Americans Peter Marshall (pictured left) and Randall Bal (pictured below, right) finishing second and third in the mens overall series rankings. The two swimmers took home $50,000 and $30,000, respectively, for their efforts in the series this year. - Descenza perfect at Minnesota Grand Prix
Mary Descenza swam a perfect six for six gold medals at the Minnesota Grand Prix. The American record-holder is now in the top position on the USA Swimming Grand Prix Series leaderboard with 30 points. USA Swimming has announced the selection of its Scholastic All-America Team for 2007-08. Nine-hundred and seventy-four athletes made the team this year, including 600 women and 374 men. Sixty-eight percent of the successful applicants had a 4.0 GPA. - Speedo Tip of the Week

Olympic gold medalist Cullen Jones, in association with aloft Philadelphia Airport hotel, will host a fundraising event on October 17 to raise money and bring awareness to the Salvation Army's Ray & Joan Kroc Center Aquatic Program. - Popovich named USOC Athlete of the Month
The U.S. Olympic Committee announced Friday that Paralympic swimmer Erin Popovich has been named its September Athlete of the Month for her accomplishments at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. - Golden Goggle Award Nominees
